The school wins the RTE Lyric FM
Moladh an Cheoil award (Music in schools) Sister Bernadette Sweeney,
Joanna Crooks, Chloe Keane and Rachel Clarke travelled down to Lyric
FM, Cornmarket Square, Limerick, to receive the prize. Three Yamaha
portable grand pianos were purchased for the school with the Prize. One
of these is in constant use in the cookery room!

The Orchestra's summer concert
takes place.
December
The Intermediate Orchestra of the
Royal Irish Academy of Music gave a concert for the whole school in the
School Hall.
The school won an IRISH TIMES
Living Dublin award. An ensemble performed before the Lord Mayor at the
Mansion House, Dublin.
A string ensemble of violins and
violas performed Christmas carols at Ashleaf Shopping Centre, Crumlin,
in aid of Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross.

Some members of St Agnes’ Community Youth
Orchestra took part in the National Concert Hall Learn & Explore
department’s project along with musicians from several schools in Dublin,
including Ballymun and Ballyfermot – culminating in a performance on June 4th
in the John Field Room at the National Concert Hall, directed by Dorothy
Conaghan.
Heather Ronan obtained a place at
audition to study viola with Elisabeth Csibi at the Royal Irish Academy
of Music.

Pauline Cavanagh became the principal violin and viola
teacher as Nicole Hudson’s career path took her more frequently on tour to the USA and Canada. Pauline is a former member
of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and currently plays with the
Hibernian Orchestra and teaches privately and at Artane School of Music.
The film crew from Mind the Gap
films start making regular appearances in school as they worked on
their documentary film Music Changes Lives.
October
The Orchestra performed in St
Agnes' Church, Crumlin, at the Crumlin Mental Health Association's
annual concert.
November
The Orchestra gave a concert at
St Brigid's National School, Stillorgan. A Report on the concert was
broadcast on RTE Radio 1 Morning Ireland Programme by Sinead Crowley,
at 8:55 am on Friday 7th November 2008.
December
3rd class along with members of
the Orchestra performed at the Sanctuary Christmas Carols at the
invitation of Sister Stanislaus Kennedy. The concert took place in the
President's Hall, Law Society Buildings, Blackhall Place, Dublin 7, and
was presented by Marty Whelan.

Castleknock Educate Together National School, Castleknock

Two parents ran in the Dublin
Women's Mini-Marathon in support of the project.
School Leavers' recital took
place. Amanda Carroll, violin, Kayleigh Greenhalghviolin, Jade Kenny,
violin, Dara Kellett, cello, Claire Hyland, double bass, Aishling
Greenhalgh, double bass, all performed. They were joined by past pupils
Yasmine Byrne, Amy Leon and Amy Murray.
St Agnes' Orchestra got 95% in the Primary School Orchestra Examination of the Royal Irish Academy of Music. They played "There Stands a Little Man" from Humperdinck's opera, "Hansel and Gretel", and the Finale from the overture of "Orpheus in the Underworld" by Offenbach, both arranged for string orchestra by Sandra Dackow, and The Day of the Dolphin, a suite for string orchestra by Edward Huws Jones.
Yasmine Byrne obtained a place at
audition to study viola with Elisabeth Csibi at the Royal Irish Academy
of Music. Kelsey McCabe, cello, passed the RIAM audition, and is
waiting for a vacancy. Amanda Carroll obtained a place at audition to
study violin with Natasha Walsh at Leinster School of Music.
35 adult musicians joined the
Orchestra for a wonderful SIDE BY SIDE concert to conclude the school
year. The 80 strong string orchestra performed a programme which
included arrangements for string orchestra and a original composition
for children's string orchestra called 'The Day of the Dolphin' by
Edward Huws Jones.

Summer camp took place July
1st-10th, with a special emphasis on chamber music
October
On October 10th the Orchestra
performed at the Crumlin Mental Health Association's annual concert in
St Agnes' Church, Crumlin
On October 17th the Orchestra
performed at the Famine Memorial opposite The International Financial
Services Centre at an event to mark the United Nations International
Day for the Eradication of Poverty which is also marked in 110

On October 11th following a mark
of 95% in the June examination of the Royal Irish Academy of Music, the
Orchestra performed at auditions for the Dublin Region High Achievers
concert.
November
On November 1st the Orchestra
performed at the 2009 permanent tsb High Achievers concert in the
Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin, organised by the Royal Irish Academy of Music
(see www.riam.ie).
On November 12th the Orchestra visited St Mary's Hospital and
Residential School, Baldoyle (St Michael's House) and gave a morning
concert for their children in the primary school, with staff members.

Musicians from Rosary College Recorder Ensemble with guitars joined up
with St Agnes' CYO 1st violins and strings to perform Christmas carols
in aid of Our Lady's Hospice, Harold's Cross, from 4 pm to 5:30 pm at

Primary School Principals Conference
The St. Agnes' Community
Youth Orchestra performed at the National Primary Schools Principals
Annual Conference in City West Hotel, Dublin, on 28th January. The
orchestra got a fantastic reception, and Sr. Bernadette made a
presentation to principals, with questions and answers. There was a
very high level of interest shown, with many principals enquiring as to
how to develop music in their schools.

February
European Council of Artists visit St. Agnes'
On February 1st an international delegation from the
European Council of Artists came to visit St. Agnes’ school, to observe the
violin project as an example of an arts project in practice in a school
environment. Representatives from Ireland, Denmark, Germay, Romania, Croatia,
Malta and Latvia heard the orchestra play, and met afterwards with staff from
the school and violin project. The ECA represents artists around Europe. It
works for promotion of the arts and to influence European policies of concern
to Artists. We were very pleased to have the ECA visit, and we thank them for
their warm encouraging words.
RTÉ Morning Ireland appearance Sr Bernadette Sweeney and Joanna Crooks were
interviewed on Morning Ireland radio programme, RTÉ radio one,
Tuesday 2nd February 2010. Cathal Mc Coille, interviewing was very
enthusiastic about the violin project, while Joanna and Sr. Bernadette

2010 Festival of Youth Orchestras IAYO A
group of St Agnes' players atttended the afternoon Festival concert.
At the evening Sophie Fahey and Joseph McCabe presented flowers.
They received red Valentine roses - here they are on the steps of the
National Concert Hall.
St Agnes' Parent Orchestra Tuesday
February 23rd - St Agnes' Parent Orchestra was launched after
tea/coffee provided downstairs in the small hall. 1st and 2nd violins,
violas, cellos and double basses were conducted by Seamus Doyle.
Everyone was amazed and delighted. The Parent Orchestra will continue
to meet on Tuesday mornings. More ....

February 23rd - Kellie O'Neill, viola, was featured on page 4 of the
Irish Times Music in the Classroom magazine. She did a brilliant

Press launch of the Feis Ceoil at the National Concert Hall, Dublin St
Agnes' Music Crumlin was invited to attend the Press Launch of the 2010
Feis Ceoil. Five girls from 3rd class, accompanied by Sister Bernadette
and Joanna Crooks, represented St Agnes' Music Crumlin. The girls were
featured in a lot of photographs and were treated to drinks and canapes
in the foyer of the National Concert Hall.
CPSMA Annual Conference, Radisson Airport Hotel On
Friday 5th March St
Agnes' CYO performed at 7:30 pm in the Killarney Suite of the
Radisson Airport Hotel for delegates attending the Catholic Primary
School Managers' Association 2010 conference. The Orchestra
played quite an extensive programme, including Haydn's St Anthony'
Chorale, the Trepak from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite, There Stands a
Little Man from Humperdinck's ballet, "Hansel and Gretel", Flirtation
by Sandra Dackow, The Day of the Dolphin by Edward Huws Jones, Mozart's
Sleigh Ride with bells, and the Finale to Offenbach's Orpheus in the
Underworld.
2010 Inter-Schools Music Festival On
Saturday February 6th St Agnes' CYO (primary school children only from
St Agnes and Scoil Colm) performed at the Inter-Schools Music Festival
hosted annually by Wesley College. Under the baton of Seamus Doyle they
earned a well-deserved 88%. The Miller Cup for Primary School Orchestra
was won by Aravon School, Bray.

Rosary College Musical Evening On
Monday 15th March St Agnes' CYO opened the Rosary College Musical
Evening at 7:30. They were joined for Mozart's Sleigh Ride by the
Rosary College Recorder Ensemble. Tuned bells and sleigh bells were
played by Kirsty Nolan, Laura Rooney, Danielle Maloney and Sophie Fahey
from St Agnes' CYO 2nd violins. Amy Leon and Amy Murray performed
Schumann's Two Grenadiers
accompanied by Triona English. The Rosary College Orchestra included
Yasmine Byrne, violin, Kayleigh Greenhalgh, violin, Amy Leon, viola,
Amy Murray, viola, Aishling Greenhalgh, double bass, and Claire Hyland,
double bass, all members of St Agnes' CYO. The Rosary Orchestra
accompanied most of the items throughout the evening.
2010 DYO auditions Alannah
King, cello, Jordean O'Brien, cello, and Nerea Murphy, double bass, got
places in Dublin Youth Orchestras at the March auditions. In the season
ahead there will be 21 St Agnes CYO players or past players in DYO!
2010 Feis Ceoil St
Agnes CYO made their debut appearance in the Junior Orchestra
Competition at the RDS in the ESB Feis Ceoil. Under the baton of Seamus
Doyle they received 1st Class Honours 85%. Here they are setting off in
the bus in high spirits. Later Seamus Doyle walks onstage to conduct in
the RDS Main Concert Hall.
Visit to a rehearsal of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra On
Friday 19th March, Shauna McCann, violin, Orlagh Doyle, violin, Lucy
Ray, violin, Alannah King, cello, Emma Lynch, cello, and Jordean
O'Brien, cello, escorted by Pauline Cavanagh and Joanna Crooks, went to
the morning rehearsal of the RTE National Symphony Orchestra in the
National Concert Hall. They sat on the edge of the balcony, looking
right down onto the stage to hear violin soloist Nicola Benedetti
rehearsing Tchaikovsky's violin concerto and Tchaikovsky's 1812
overture.

Drogheda Arts Festival St.
Agnes' CYO
performed as guest artists the 2010 Drogheda Arts Festival ( www.droghedaartsfestival.ie
) in the fabulous new Barbican theatre. The orchestra
played a
selection of current favourite pieces and gave the audience a chance to
get the feel of learning music throught audience particitpation
numbers. The concert
was shared with the choir of Our Lady's
College Greenhills, Drogheda, and the Ballymun project Wind
Ensemble.
Cello Day On
Thursday May 13th Aisling Drury Byrne visited St Agnes' Primary School.
All nine cellos in St Agnes' Primary School, Shauna, Jordean, Alannah,
Emma, Michaela, Alaia, Laura, Kelsey and Rebecca, as well as two
cellists from the PARENT orchestra, Mick Deans and Brian O'Hare, and
our three "baby" cellos, Courtney, Caitlin and Michael took part along
with Eimear O'Grady, our cello teacher. It was a wonderful experience.
Perhaps most of all Aisling conveyed to everyone as noone else could

Allianz Business To Arts Awards 2010 Amy
Keenan O'gorman (7), Noble Tharayil (7), Jenny Iljina (6) and Nathan
Hynes (7) from St Agnes' Primary School, Crumlin, who performed with a
group of children at IMMA, Royal Hospital Kilmainham at this year's
Allianz Business To Arts Awards. Special guest Jean Butler presented
the Dublin Airport Authority €5000 Arts Award to the project. Crumlin
Credit Union was the nominated business for the Business To Arts
Awards. Nathan Hynes danced for Jean Butler!

Wednesday November 17th - morning concert at Belvedere College On
Wednesday 17th November at 11:30 am Belvedere College hosted a concert
attended by six primary schools in the O'Reilly Theatre, sharing the
concert programme with St Agnes' Community Youth Orchestra conducted by
Seamus Doyle and Belvedere College Wind Band and Orchestra. Read more
Friday November 26th - chamber musicians perform in One in Four concert in Kimmage Manor Read more St Agnes' Cello Ensemble and "Plucked String
Quartet" opened the annual One in Four concert in the Church of the
Blessed Spirit, Kimmage Manor, Whitehall Road, on Friday 26th November.
The church was packed. Other performers included the Garda Ladies'
Choir and Boys' Choir of Pius X.
Members of the cello octet were: Kelsey McCabe, Rebecca Ross, Alannah
King, Jordean O'Brien, Emma Lynch (unable to play on that date),
Michaela Pantoja, Alaia Murphy, Laura Darragh.
They played three Christmas carols, a Polish carol, Infant Holy Infant Lowly, Silent Night and O Come all ye Faithful.
Members of the Plucked String Quartet were Jassjot Pal Kaur, 1st vl,
Melissa Deans, 2nd violin, Kellie O'Neill, viola, Kelsey McCabe, cello.
They played a traditional folktune, Bobby Shafto, arranged for string quartet by Sheila Nelson, and the March by Handel from Judas Maccabeus.
Tuesday December 14th - Parent Orchestra plays at Ashleaf SC Musicians
from St Agnes' Parents' Orchestra play Christmas Carols at Ashleaf
Shopping Centre. The group played a selection of Christmas and other
music, in support of the violin project.
Tuesday 14th December - broadcast on RTE Lyric FM 96-99 fm
The Polish Christmas Carol recorded by the children in St Agnes' 2nd to 6th Class Infant Holy Infant Lowly
will be broadcast during Lunchtime Classics with Liz Nolan on RTE Lyric
fm on Tuesday 14th December. Conducted by Sister Bernadette Sweeney,
this is the St Agnes' entry in Choirs for Christmas. Wednesday 15th December - Musicians
from Rosary College Orchestra play Christmas Carols at Ashleaf Shopping
Centre, joined by senior players from St Agnes and past pupils of St
Agnes. Friday 17th December Third
Class in St Agnes go to Caritas Nursing Home, Blackrock, and the School
for the Blind, Merrion, to perform the Christmas Story in Words and
Music, accompanied by Pauline Cavanagh.
Saturday 18th December The Christmas season
all went very well despite some earlier diffuculties with the snow. The
Christmas Concert was a spectacular success, with great performances
from the Junior orchestra, the senior school orchestra and the parents
orchestra. Also performances from within the orchestra by the 'Plucked'
quartet and Cello ensemble. There was a great turnout, with VIPs
including local politicians, family members young and old and other

On Tuesday February
8th several groups of visitors converged on St Agnes' and attended
rehearsals of the Parents String Orchestra, St Agnes' CYO and
performances by small groups of children from Junior Infants, 1st Class, 2nd Class, 4th class and 6th class. Among
the visitors were Mr Jim Mulkerrins, Head of Social Inclusion and DEIS,
Dept of Education, Athlone, Dr William Halpin, Head of DIT
Conservatory of Music and Drama, Mr Tommy Cooke, DIT Director of
Community Links and Dr Cliona Doris, Head of DIT Conservatory
Orchestral Studies and Terry Clancy, conductor of Sounds Ensemble.

St Agnes Parents String Orchestra with Sounds Ensemble raised €1088 for
Haiti at their concert on 26th February in the School Hall at St Agnes.
Their programme "Beatles to Beethoven" concluded with "Thank You for

Inter-Schools Music Festival Saturday March 5th -
St
Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School Orchestra were runners up in the MILLER
CUP (Primary School Orchestra competition) at the Inter-Schools Music
Festival hosted by Wesley College on Saturday March 5th. Conducted by
Seamus Doyle, they played "The March of the Meistersingers" in an

Thursday April 7th - String Quartets play at KPMG Central Remedial Clinic Concert at Hotel Conrad
Three string quartets from St Agnes performed at the concert in the
Ballroom of Hotel Conrad on April 7th 2011. They enjoyed the exciting
lighting and the performances by students from the CRC school. Friday April 8th - National love:live music Day - RTE Concert Orchestra visit St Agnes Students
from Rosary College, Crumlin Youthreach and Scoil Colm joined St Agnes'
Primary School pupils from 2nd to 6th class and members of St Agnes'
Parents String Orchestra for a unique event on Friday April 8th. RTE
Concert Orchestra gave a concert in the School Hall, and played two

Wednesday April 13th - Music Generation At
a meeting in the City Wall Space, Dublin Civic Offices, Seamus Doyle
was elected to represent Dublin South Central on the Steering Committee
of the CDVEC Dublin City Music Education Partnership.
Tuesday May 3rd - Coffee morning for parents of "new" DYO players An
informal coffee morning took place in the cookery room where parents of
players who have just got into th Dublin Youth Orchestras at the recent
auditions could meet and chat with parents whose children had been
members for a year or more and pass on a few tips - the big message was
- "Don't miss rehearsals!"
Tuesday May 3rd - First meeting of the musical society - planning to do Oklahoma! The
performances of Oklahoma are planned for March 24th and 25th 2012. A
group of more than 30 are involved. Auditions for the six big solo
parts are scheduled for September 12th. Read more
Wednesday May 11th - RTE Vanbrugh String Quartet workshop at St Agnes This was a memorable day when RTE Vanbrugh String Quartet
came for a workshop and concert, playing works by Haydn, Mozart,

Saturday October 8th - Crumlin Mental Health Association concert Members
of the "Oklahoma!" chorus sang at the Crumlin Mental Health Association
concert on Saturday 8th October in St Agnes Parish Centre, Crumlin
Village. Their programme was accompanied by Pauline Cooper, piano, and
conducted by Joanna Crooks, deputising for Eimear O'Grady. A string
quartet from the Parents Orchestra led by John Whelan also performed at
the concert.

Agnes' Christmas Market The
first annual Christmas Market took place on Saturday December 3rd and
raised over €3000 for the School Violin & Orchestra project. Santa
Claus arrived by fire engine and the Christmas Market was opened by
Miriam O'Callaghan, who stayed to enjoy a cup of coffee in the
Christmas Corner Cafe. Read more
Thursday December 8th - Christmas lights ceremony at Aras an Uachtarain Fifteen
children were chosen to sing at the Ceremony for the turning on of
Christmas Lights at Aras an Uachtarain, escorted by Sister Bernadette
Sweeney and Adrienne Ni Cheallaigh. A photograph appeared in Saturday's

Members of St Agnes Musical Society Chorus sang Christmas Carols
from 4:00-5:30 at Dundrum Town Centre, raising funds for the School
& Violin Project.
Monday December 12th - Visit of President Michael D Higgins The
School was excited and delighted to receive a phone call from the
office of newly elected President Michael D Higgins, to announce that
the President would like to visit the music project at St Agnes. A
guard of honour from Scoil Colm, Rosary College and Crumlin Youthreach
as well as from the Early Start and Infant Classes greeted the
President on his arrival at St Agnes. All other children in the school
were waiting for the President in the hall, along with St Agnes/Scoil
Colm Primary School Orchestra, St Agnes' Parents String Orchestra and
members of Sounds Ensemble.There was considerable media coverage. Read more.The

Wednesday December 14th - Microsoft Lunch On
Wednesday December 14th a group of players from St Agnes'
Scoil Colm Primary School Orchestra played at the Sandyford offices of
Microsoft Ireland, for the staff Christmas lunch. In addition they were
given tours in small groups. On departure Microsoft gave an XBox 360
with Kinect as a gift to the school.

Parents String Orchestra ~ Annual Christmas Concert The
Christmas Concert took place on Thursday 15th December at 6 pm under
the baton of Seamus Doyle and was a very happy occasion.
Wednesday December 21st - Bank of Ireland Walkinstown On
Wednesday December 21st a group of players from St Agnes' Parents
Orchestra played Christmas music in the Bank of Ireland, Walkinstown,
who were collecting on behalf of the Make-a-Wish-Foundation.
Wednesday January 25th - Piano/keyboard programme begins Three groups of players (21) started lessons
with Nicole Hudson after school on Wednesday afternoons as part of the
new Piano/Keyboard programme, another initiative of St Agnes Community

Saturday February 4th - 2012 Festival of Youth Orchestras (Irish Association of Youth Orchestras) A
group of players from St Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School Orchestra
attended the 8 pm concert of the 2012 IAYO Festival escorted by Joanna
Crooks, Pauline Cavanagh and Sister Bernadette Sweeney. The School
Orchestra received an IAYO Youth Orchestra Achievement Award for
Development, for the 2011 summer camp project
which integrated adult and school players. A highlight of the summer
camp was a lunch time concert in Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin.
Sunday February 26th - St Agnes' Parents' Orchestra with SOUNDS Ensemble The
concert on Sunday February 26th was conducted by Eimear O'Grady
and Terence Clancy. Admission was free but the proceeds went to Pieta
House. Joan Freeman, CEO of Pieta House, was there to address the
audience briefly.
Saturday March 3rd, Sunday March 4th - Mahler at St Agnes On
Saturday March 3rd and Sunday March 4th the Royal Irish Academy of
Music Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Cavanagh rehearsed
throughout the day in the School Hall at St Agnes, prior to their
performance of Mahler's 2nd Symphony, "The Resurrection Symphony" on
Monday 5th in the National Concert Hall, Dublin. Read more
Wednesday March 7th - Large group photograph for the International Eucharistic Congress On
Wednesday 7th March at 6:30 pm a large group photograph was taken by
Photocall Ireland of players in St Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School
Orchestra and St Agnes' Parents String Orchestra. The photograph will
be used for all general PR purposes and in particular for the website
and programme of the International Eucharistic Congress. Read more

production by St Agnes Musical Society, "Oklahoma!" directed by Eimear
O'Grady. There were four performances on Saturday March 24th and Sunday
march 25th at 3 pm and 7:30 pm, which played to full houses. The

of St Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School Orchestra and St Agnes' Parents
String Orchestra gave a lconcert in St Agnes' School Hall - a
dress rehearsal for the performance next day on Saturday June 16th at
the
International Eucharistic Congress. The Armagh Quartet, Jassjot Pal
Kaur, 1st vl, Melissa Deans, 2nd vl, Kellie O'Neill, viola, Emma Lynch,
cello) gave a performance during the concert. These four girls are
studying chamber music at DIT Conservatory of Music with Gillian
Williams and Arun Rao. The concert opened with the Piano/Keyboard group

Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School Orchestra got a
DISTINCTION 94% in the Royal Irish Academy of Music Primary School
Orchestra examination. Following the orchestra exam, some students,
including secondary school pupils took individual Grade exams, Grades 3
to 5, in violin, viola and cello. All received Honours and there were
three Distinctions.

Tuesday June 19th, the first "in-house" examinations For
the first time, every child in St Agnes/Scoil Colm Primary School
Orchestra took an inhouse examination, covering scales, pieces, aural
tests, sightreading and theory questions. The results were very
satisfying after a lot of hard work. Thank you to the examiners, Romey
Doyle and Eimear O'Grady. Certificates were presented in St Agnes on
Thursday 21st June and in Scoil Colm on Wednesday 27th June.
Sunday June 24th, 9-1 pm CAR BOOT SALE Members
of St Agnes Musical Society organised the Car Boot Sale to raise funds
for the 2013 production of "The King and I". Car boot sales continue

secondary school took part in the 2012 summer camp, which concluded
with a wonderful concert in Christ Church Cathedral on Thursday 5th

Friday July 27th, Project String Power
Project String Power from East Texas, USA, who
were touring in Ireland, visited St Agnes on Friday 27th July for a
social evening, which was an enormous success. This is a similar group
to St Agnes Music Crumlin, based in Panola County, Texas. The American
visitors got a great Crumlin welcome. Read more.
Saturday September 15th, CEILÍ NIGHT
A
family CEILÍ NIGHT to raise funds for St Agnes Violin & Orchestra
Project took place as an experiment on Saturday 15th September. CEILÍ nights will be held once a term from this point, with the next CEILÍ night on Saturday October 20th. A big feature of the CEILÍ
night is the Cafe for refreshments. Once set up, the cafe was all ready
for the Car Sale next morning on Sunday 16th September. Find out more

STORY in words and music, at 11 am in the School Hall for parents and
classes from 2nd to 6th, then at 2 pm in Caritas Nursing Home,
Blackrock, and at 3:15 pm in the School for the Blind, Merrion.
